Let go of harmful habits

Vibrant Voice Technique uses vibration combined with movement to help you re-pattern muscular engagement.

Change your patterns

Moving muscles while applying vibration heightens awareness, increases blood flow and strengthens neuro-muscular connectivity, all of which help to change tension patterns.

Keep your voice healthy

Gain a deeper understanding of how your voice works so you can troubleshoot when it’s not working like you want it to.

"“Vibrant Voice has mercifully provided an incredibly simple, efficient, and effective way to simultaneously relax tension while warming up the voice. My students excitedly share how much easier it is to navigate resonators and to shape the overall placement of their voices. The vibrator gives a kind of kinesthetic feedback that used to require the hands of a classmate or teacher. What used to be quite esoteric has been made so tangible and clear…thanks!”"

John Patrick
Head of Voice & Speech, UNC Chapel Hill and Lead Teacher, Miller Voice Method

"“Vibrant Voice Technique has increased my understanding and awareness of the subtle ways in which the body can hold tension, impacting breath flow and vocal quality. It provides simple techniques that immediately bring attention to breathing patterns, allowing instant opportunities to experience improved body alignment and fuller breath. I have experienced increased richness in resonance when speaking or singing, along with a feeling of openness and expansion in my throat and mouth after doing a combination of the tension release and resonator exercises. Vibrant Voice Technique is a great tool for proprioception. As a speech therapist, I think it has potential to be helpful clinically in the areas of voice pathology and motor speech disorders.”"

Stacey Cole
Speech-Language Pathologist

"“I was excited to discover the Vibrant Voice Technique and have made the exercises part of my warm up routine when I am performing. I find it particularly useful on those days when my voice feels “stuck” or “stiff.”"

Patricia Zentilli
Actress/Singer

"“I have to sing every day in my profession, and when I do it’s usually high B’4s, B’5s, and C’5s. The Vibrant Technique not only helps me access that edgy pop “mixed voice”, but it also eases the tension I feel after talking over crowds all day and singing all night. After only three weeks I can already feel and hear a difference in my vocal resonance and strength – I can’t wait to hear the difference in my voice a year from now!”"

Matthew Gordon
Professional Cruise Ship Singer

"“I have been a teacher on tall ships, in the classroom, and outdoors, as well as a choral singer. Twelve years ago, I began experiencing discomfort and strain while rehearsing for a performance. Medics and specialists could not find anything physically wrong, but I never regained full use of my voice – rest and time have been my only remedies. Two years ago the problem resurfaced and nearly made it impossible for me to do my job, training dogs. One Skype session with Vibrant Voice Technique gave me a warm up routine to prepare my voice as an athlete would train before a competition. As a result, my recovery time from a full day of using my voice has significantly diminished. Thank you Vibrant Voice Technique for making it possible for me to continue in the line of work that I love by speeding up my recovery time and for reducing my vocal stress.”"

Dorothy Jones
Professional Dog Trainer

"“Vibrant Voice Technique is brilliant! My jaw in particular has been doing so much better since I’ve started using the tool and technique. Until now, nothing else has worked to reduce the tension in my head and neck. David and Elissa are very attentive; they took the time to look at my personal problems, prescribe tailored exercises and answered all my questions. I am so glad I asked for their help, thank you so much!”"

Sedera Halarla
Singer

"“My lesson with Elissa changed my whole approach to singing. I never realized how much the tension in my neck, face and shoulders was inhibiting my voice. Also, finding resonance with the vibrator made a significant difference in tone quality. I highly, highly recommend scheduling a lesson!”"

George Martin
Private Party Entertainment

"“Vibrant Voice has absolutely changed my performative life! Prior to the workshop, I frequently lost or damaged my voice during the run of a show, but the vibration exercises have improved my resonance and vocal strength. Not only did the technique increase my range, it has also helped to release neck, jaw and shoulder tension that often contributed to my vocal fatigue. I use the Vibrant Voice Technique as part of all of my vocal warm-ups, and I recommend it to anyone who works with their voice.”"

Ben Gorodetsky
Actor/Improviser

"“I participated in a two day online Vibrant Voice Technique workshop and am thrilled to report the exercises have noticeably improved my singing. Maintaining vocal health and consistency has been a struggle for more than a decade, but the Vibrant Voice Technique has allowed me to experience vocal resonance in ways that have made singing much more enjoyable. This program has virtually eliminated my struggle for consistency. It now takes 1-5 minutes to find that “it” spot with my voice in terms of resonance and placement when it used to take me hours – not ideal as I’m the lead singer for the rock band Mukagee. Every week it seems I’m learning new things I can do with my voice. Exciting times indeed!”"

Mzao Waters
Singer

"“As an amateur singer, I have had problems over the years producing consistent vibrato in my singing voice. I was amazed to find that after only one session using the Vibrant Voice Technique on my throat and cheek I was able to feel and hear vibrato in my voice while singing. I will now be using the technique regularly to train my muscle memory so that in time I will be able to produce this more focused sound with natural vibrato at will. Thank you Elissa and David for sharing this technique with the world!”"

Christine Triffitt
Singer

"“For me, thorough relaxation of the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the larynx is crucial for easy vocalization, but it isn’t always easy to achieve. As the class progressed through the Vibrant Voice Technique exercises, not only did the muscles of my upper back, neck, and face feel much more relaxed, but I experienced fewer and fewer dropouts with voicing. The work with the vibrator has now become a fundamental part of my relaxation techniques arsenal. One of the most helpful—and surprising—parts of the class was the exploration of resonance and placement. Vocal placement is a concept with which I’ve struggled; it’s been difficult for me to “feel” placement within my own head and voice. But after we completed the VVT exercises in the 3 spatial planes, I could actually detect—for the first time ever—the physical sensation of my voice resonating in my mid face.” "

Liz Harris
Voice Actor

"“I am a singer and have been struggling with severe vocal projection and range loss over a period of 5 years with little improvement. I worked with Elissa and she was very easy to understand as well as extremely informative. I found immediately noticeable results upon going through the exercises with her and while my voice isn’t anywhere near perfect I’ve noticed a major increase in my range as long as I’m keeping up with the exercises. This is the first sign of hope I’ve had that I’ll be able to get back to singing professionally again in a long time and I’m very grateful and looking forward to hearing about whatever further research brings.”"

Jenna Materi
Singer/Songwriter

"“More than a year ago, I got to know Vibrant Voice Technique through Facebook. As a voice teacher/speech therapist, I was curious if this method would be a value in my work. Since I’ve been able to take the online workshop a few days ago, even MY throat has never been this relaxed. I also tried it on some clients. The effect is amazing! In less than 15 minutes, people are able to significantly voice more freely. I don’t think it’s a bit rash to say Vibrant Voice Technique will be a basic method in speech therapy in the near future.”"

Gert Leunen
Speech Therapist/Voice teacher

"“Recently I had three hours of singing, one hour alone as a soloist and two hours with others singers. Nobody knew I had just learned the Vibrant Voice Technique, but they remarked to me that my voice was more brilliant, full, and they heard something like bells! I felt that it was easier to achieve pianissimo for many notes as well.”"

Louise Gagnon
Family Doctor and Classical Singer

"“Vibrant Voice Technique, is a simple, accessible and sophisticated way to help people gain support and awareness to let speaking and singing become easier and more effective. I highly recommend this work!”"

Eric Stewart
Yoga Studio Owner

"Last October, I woke up one morning and my voice was hoarse. I wasn’t sick, there was absolutely no reason for it. My family doctor referred me to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. I had the camera up my nose and down my throat. I had a chest x-ray and a CT scan to determine that there was nothing growing on my laryngeal nerve that extends from in your brain down into your chest. All was clear, thank God. I was then referred to an Ears, Nose and Throat Surgeon. His diagnosis was Paralysis of the Vocal Cord and his solution was to surgically implant a silicone wedge to force my vocal cord over to the other one. After thinking it over, I decided not to do this surgery as it seemed very invasive. My husband brought home an article in the Gateway newspaper (a Univ. of Alberta newspaper). The article was all about Professor David Ley and how he is treating stressed out vocal cords of actors and singers by massaging the throat with a vibrator. I am neither an actor nor a singer, but down to the “Love Boutique” I went and purchased a Lelo Siri vibrator. IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE MIRACLE! After 8 months of appointments and assessments, within 5 minutes of massaging my vocal cords with this vibrator, I had my voice coming back! I highly recommend this approach to relieving strained vocal cords. It is painless, takes only a little time for maintenance when strained and is much less invasive than surgery. I am extremely grateful to you, Professor Ley, for giving me my voice back!"

"“I am an opera singer, student, and constant traveller that suffers from severe back and neck issues. I approached Vibrant Voice in the hopes that I could gently and effectively loosen my chronically tense muscles. I had been practicing self-massage techniques on my jaw, neck and shoulder for a long time, but had yet to deepen my understanding of how to effectively target the muscles used for singing. Over two days David and Elissa talked us through the specific muscles of the neck, sternum, jaw, and head that could cause vocal strain, fatigue, or be hindering peak performance due to stress. There was also a very interesting and surprisingly effective portion of the workshop devoted to resonance, and how to use the massager to stimulate different types of resonance while singing. This was an informative, stimulating, and well constructed workshop that gave me the tools to continue working on my own. David and Elissa took great care to answer every question we had, and were very patient with our group which was a mix of pedagogues, teachers and singers of all types and backgrounds. They were extremely knowledgeable, professional, skilled and were very generous about sharing their wealth of knowledge and study resources with us. After a month of following the basic guidelines and exercises, I have seen real relief in my neck, and shoulder.”"

Learn more about vibrant voice technique

It all started when a friend and client came to him experiencing intense vocal fatigue. A scope of her vocal folds at the otolaryngologist’s office showed no damage, but she was badly in need of a way to release the tension that was contributing to her voice loss. A lightbulb moment later, Vibrant Voice Technique was born!
